Police in the Central Region have detained Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency.
This comes after the Special Development Initiatives Minister fired a gun on Monday due to a misunderstanding at a Kasoa voter registration center.
The Minister of Special Development Initiatives informed JoyNews that she only fired the rounds after some thugs who were allegedly connected to the opposition NDC threatened to kill her.
Despite this defense, the public has strongly condemned the incident, with many demanding her resignation and further legal action.
Speaking about the development, Freddy Blay, the chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), said the calls were premature because the MP was the one who was shot.
While visiting the Regional Police Headquarters, JoyNews' Central Regional correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko says that CID detectives are currently questioning Hawa Koomson.
Meanwhile, bail has been granted to about four individuals who were also taken into custody in relation to the disturbance.
They were given ¢30,000 bail each by a Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Dorinda Smith Arthur. They were required to have two sureties, one of whom had to be a government employee with a net salary of ¢2000.
