Four suspected robbers reported to be terrorizing residents and visitors in the Adansi districts of the Ashanti Region were killed following a gunfight on the Bekwai-Fomena Highway.
The culprits, suspected to be members of a robbery gang, were claimed to have set up a roadblock and attacked travelers going between Bekwai and Fomena.
The cops came quickly to distress calls and engaged the bandits in a violent gunfight.
Four of the suspects were killed during the operation, while two more survived with bullet wounds and escaped into a nearby thicket.
A manhunt has been started to apprehend the duo.
Police said investigations are continue to discover the entire details of the heist and the identity of the deceased suspects.
Residents in the area, who have been living in dread as a result of escalating highway robberies, have praised the police for their prompt involvement.
The Ashanti South Police Command verified the event and stated that full details would be provided at a press conference on Monday, April 14.
