Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has openly called on Speaker of the House of Representatives Alban Bagbin to take the initiative in resolving the current parliamentary deadlock in Ghana, which has caused a great deal of dissension among lawmakers.

Afenyo-Markin led the Majority caucus, which fiercely resisted Speaker Bagbin's declaration that four parliamentary seats—Fomena, Amenfi Central, Suhum, and Agona West—were vacant.

Because they felt that their representation in Parliament was being attacked, they brought their complaints to the Supreme Court, which temporarily reinstated the contested seats by issuing a stay on the Speaker's decision.

The impasse has only grown more intense. The Majority members boycotted the House when the Minority caucus took advantage of the situation to take over the Majority side of the parliamentary chamber, and Speaker Bagbin then adjourned the meeting. Speaking on Asempa FM, former President Kufuor called the case "embarrassing" and cautioned that if it is not resolved right away, it could harm the Speaker's reputation.

Disappointed at the chaos, Kufuor urged Bagbin to take immediate action and use his position to bring order back. "He needs to demonstrate leadership because this Parliament is only about a month old," Kufuor said, adding that Bagbin's contribution is essential to bringing stability back to the remaining sessions. The former president underlined how crucial it is to approve necessary budget and transitional legislation in order to successfully end the current legislative session. In his plea, Kufuor emphasized the possible harm to Bagbin's reputation and counseled him against taking any actions that might reflect poorly on him.
