The Ghana Police Service has made significant headway in the investigation into the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo. The prime suspect, Israel Kwadwo Safo—widely known as Akofena—voluntarily turned himself in at the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22, 2026, just one day after the June 21 incident.

Following his surrender, Akofena was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to aid in the ongoing probe. A subsequent search of his vehicle and residence in Kwabenya yielded a startling arsenal, including 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, several loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols—one of which is legally registered.

The investigation has since widened, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects: Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson. All three individuals remain in police custody, assisting with inquiries. They are expected to face the court on June 23, 2026, as the police continue to piece together the events surrounding the attack on the former legislator.
