Ghana Mourns the Loss of Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba
The highlife music community has been grieving for the past five days after the passing of the legendary singer Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely celebrated as Daddy Lumba.
The iconic musician, who died on July 26, 2025, left an indelible mark on Ghana’s music industry with timeless hits like Enye Nyame Den, Medo Wo Asem Bebree, and Makra Mo, among numerous others.
Months before his death, on December 21, 2024, Lumba shared a heartfelt tribute on social media honoring his late mother, Maame Ama Saah, marking 23 years since her passing.
"Maame Ama Saah, though 23 years have passed since you left us, the ache in my heart remains as deep as ever," he wrote.
He fondly remembered her as his pillar and strongest inspiration, saying, "You were my foundation and greatest motivator, molding me into the man I became. Your endless love and sacrifices will always be remembered."
Though she was gone, Lumba found comfort in believing she was at peace, watching over him and his siblings—Akosua Bremponmaa and Fowaa. "I take solace knowing you’re in a better place, smiling down on us with pride. We exist because you existed. Rest well, Maame," he added.
Daddy Lumba, the voice behind beloved tracks like Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, Theresa, Anidaso, and Ohia Asomdwe, will forever be remembered as a giant of Ghanaian music.
He passed away at 60 years old, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
