On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially opened Ghana's first fleet of electric buses (EVs).
Dr. Bawumia's goal to deploy electric vehicles as a way to cut costs in the transportation industry led to the launch of the EV buses.
Because it also aims to modernize the nation's public transportation infrastructure, it is anticipated that public transportation costs will drop by 40–50%.
Depending on their location, passengers who wish to board the buses must pay between GH¢6 and GH¢8.
Dr. Bawumia stated at the EV bus unveiling that the buses would be used on routes including as the Ashaiman-Accra, Accra-Amasaman, and Oyibi-Accra lines.
