A fatal collision on the Juaso-Nkawkaw section of the Accra-Kumasi highway has resulted in 15 deaths and left four others critically injured, as reported by myjoyonline.com.
The crash occurred on Monday afternoon, July 28, 2025, involving a fuel tanker and a Ford Transit bus carrying youth members of the Obogu Saviour Church. Among the victims were the two children of the church’s Head Pastor, intensifying the grief in the close-knit community.
Eyewitnesses and emergency officials stated that the accident happened around 2:00 PM when the tanker, traveling from Kumasi to Accra, suffered a tyre burst while overtaking another vehicle. The driver lost control, leading to a head-on collision with the bus, which was returning from a church congress in Koforidua. The force of the impact was so severe that the bus’s engine was dislodged.
Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ambulance Service, and Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) swiftly responded to the scene to aid in recovery and medical efforts.
Kofi Baah, an elder of the Obogu Saviour Church, confirmed to Adom News that the victims were part of the church’s youth ministry.
"The young members left Obogu on Friday for the congress. We received a distress call and rushed to Juaso Hospital, only to face this devastating tragedy," Baah said in an emotional statement. "Some parents lost two or even three children. Among the deceased are our pastor’s two children—this is an immense loss for our community."
The 15 victims, aged between 4 and 21, have been taken to the Juaso Government Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving emergency treatment.
The Obogu community is in profound mourning as residents come to terms with the sudden loss of so many young lives. Meanwhile, the Juaso MTTD has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and assign responsibility.
