TWO PEOPLE have been declared dead, and five others have sustained serious injuries, as a result of a deadly altercation between two gangs in Wiamoase, Ashanti Region, on Saturday.
The two gangs are claimed to be from Wiamoase and Ntonso, and they reportedly clashed over a minor issue during the funeral rites of Richlove, a young lady from Wiamoase, resulting in injuries.
The Ntonso gang, who had traveled to Wiamoase to attend the funeral, allegedly referred to one of its members as 'Hero'. They were then spotted following the man, shouting "Hero, Hero, Hero" on the funeral grounds.
This development was believed to enrage the Wiamoase gang, who are the local people, because they felt the Ntonso gang's activity on their territory (Wiamoase) was a severe disrespect and insult to them.
In revenge, the Wiamoase gang claimed one of their men was the true 'Hero'. They reportedly began yelling "Hero, Hero, Hero" as they followed that man throughout the funeral grounds.
This resulted in a free-for-all clash between the Wiamoase and Ntonso gangs. The Ntonso gang, who were claimed to be armed with weapons, allegedly began firing warning shots indiscriminately, instilling fear and panic among the mourners.
The Ntonso gang's bullets humiliated the Wiamoase gang, so they displayed sharp machetes as well. The two groups then publicly clashed, resulting in two deaths and five wounded.
Williams Adamu, Assemblyman for Wiamoase Amangoase Area, corroborated the report, saying the death toll was first listed as four, "but I can confirm that only two deaths and five injuries have been confirmed."
According to him, the two guys who died were from the Ntonso gang, while the five injured were from the Wiamoase gang and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Wiamoase Amoangoase Assemblyman stated that five people were arrested in connection with the brutal fight, and that police have been patrolling Wiamoase since Saturday evening to prevent another incident.
