Your House is in Both Your Names... Right?

Don't Let Your Dream Home Become a Legal Trap.

You buy land with your spouse. The deed says: "Mr/Mrs Daniel Akoto." It looks sweet and united, right?

In the eyes of the law, it is a trap.

The phrase "Mr/Mrs" is legally interpreted as the man alone. Your contribution and your interest are not protected.

For true co-ownership, the names must be written clearly and distinctly, for example:

“Daniel Akoto and Rose Akoto (husband and wife)”

“Mr. Daniel Akoto and Mrs. Rose Akoto, as joint purchasers.”

This ensures the law recognizes you both as legal owners.

I have handled too many heartbreaking cases where widows were pushed out of homes they helped build, all because the document only bore his name.

In law, love is not proof of ownership. Clarity is.

Protect your marriage. Protect your property. Insist on clear titling.
