One thousand mini tractors and their accessories have been ordered from the Czech Republic for distribution to farmers throughout the country. The tractors, which cost 10 million euros are expected in the country next month.
The minister for food and agriculture, Mr Ernest Akubour Debrah, told the paper that an additional 400 tractors had also been imported from India to promote large-scale mechanised agriculture.
The 400 tractors are part of the 1,000 tractors which the Government ordered from India, 200 of which arrived in the country last year. Mr Debrah said the move, among others, was the ministry?s grand design to modernise agriculture to ensure that the country achieved its expected targets.
He said beneficiary farmers or groups of farmers would deposit part of the cost of each tractor, while the rest would be paid within four years
