Wa, Oct. 6, GNA - The leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is considering forming unions at all levels that would enable them to become part of Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The essence is to create a major mouthpiece that would be representative of all teachers to enhance their performance and encourage more people to get into the teaching profession. Madam Irene Duncan Adanusah, General Secretary of GNAT announced this at Wa on Wednesday during the commissioning of a 30-unit block of was realised through monthly levies on member teachers in the region for almost two years.

Madam Adanusah said apart from the 30-unit hostel, the regional secretariat of GNAT would also construct a restaurant that would serve the ever-growing population of people in the region and beyond. Madam Portia Molly Anafo, Acting National President of GNAT called on teachers to stay out of active party politics as their activities could affect their pupils negatively.

She said although teachers are often called upon to assist in national assignments they should hold up that dignity by playing neutral roles that would demonstrate their level-headedness.

Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports and Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister who were going on inspection tour of educational projects also took some time to advise teachers to remain resolute to their profession.

Mr Baah-Wiredu commended the contractor, Mr Aloysius Zon of AL-ZON Construction Limited for a good work done and for executing the project before the deadline and called on other contractors to emulate his performance.
