A total of 1,800 Muslim pilgrims have so far been flown from the Tamale Airport to Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform this year’s Hajj.

Seven aircraft are flying the pilgrims directly from Tamale to Saudi Arabia.

About 2,617 from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and other areas of the country are expected to board their flights through the Tamale Airport to Jedda or Madina. Three more flights are still expected to touch down and convey the remaining pilgrims to Mecca.

In an interview with Class news’ Northern Regional Correspondent, a member of the Communications Unit of the Hajj Board, Alhaji Eliasu explained that events are unfolding just like they anticipated. He said that all flights have been scheduled for pilgrims to arrive on time, and, so far, a total of 1,800 pilgrims have travelled to Mecca.

He indicated that the arrangement done this year is phenomenal and that the Hajj Board ought to be commended for the improvement made from last year. According to him, the other pilgrims are expected to leave the country between Wednesday and Friday when the last flight arrives.
