10 companies donate towards farmer's day

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - The Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Wednesday received donations from 10 corporate entities towards this year's farmer's day.

The donation is the second in the series of presentations to be made to the Ministry.

The companies were Unique Insurance Company, which presented one year fire policy insurance, a personal life insurance as well as a cheque for GH¢2, 000, Metropolitan Insurance, a cheque for GH¢ 3,000, and Citizen Kofi, a cheque for GH¢10, 000.

Interplast presented a cheque for GH¢5,000, Produce Buying Company, GH¢10,000, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, GH¢10,000, Zoom lion, GH¢2,000, and Ghana Commercial Bank GH¢5,000.

The rest were Multi Choice Ghana which presented a fully installed DSTV set and a cheque for GH¢2,000, while Crocodile Matchet, presented 20 boxes of cutlass worth GH¢4000 and a cheque for GH¢1,000.

Farmers Day is in recognition of the valuable contribution of the nation's farmers, fishermen and other stakeholders in the Agricultural sector to national development.

The national event would be celebrated in the Eastern Region, while all the 10 regions are expected to hold regional and district activities to award deserving farmers and fishermen.

Addressing the donors and members of the National Award Committee after the presentation, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, the sector Minister expressed gratitude for the donation.

He called for continued support of all stakeholders to facilitate national efforts to attain national food security, within a reasonable period.

Mr Ahwoi called for the recognition of the role of farmers towards national development, stressing, "agriculture is the real engine for Ghana's economic growth".
