Hundreds of vessels are waiting to dock at the main berth of the Tema Port as marine engineers are working to save a capsized fishing vessel from sinking, our correspondent says.

The fishing vessel capsized on Wednesday, February 26, after on-board workers botched an offloading process.

According to TV3’s Josephine Frempong, dock workers were unloading over 300 cartons of fish from the vessel and loading bags of salt onto it at the same time.

During the process, the vessel tilted to one side and it capsized, Josephine Frempong explained on Midday Live on Thursday.

Marine engineers are working tirelessly to clear the vessel from Tema harbour's main berth as it has already created congestion.

It should not have been at the main berth, but the fishing harbour, Josephine Frempong quoted an official at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) as saying.

Certain situations may have been compromised, our Tema correspondent inferred.
