The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Prof. Ken Attafuah has disclosed that a total of 3,901,783 cards are currently ready for distribution.

According to him, they have plans to distribute the cards to the various districts for onward distribution.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that a total of 11,062,985 Ghanaians have been registered with 11,000,582 cards printed.

He said the Authority had in mind to capture about 80% of Ghanaians which they are almost done.

We have also trained our staff for COVID-19 safety protocols for the mop-up exercise and the continuation of the Eastern region scheduled for the 18th of this month.

"So we are asking all Ghanaians who have registered for their cards to get prepared for the mop-up exercise in all 5,632 registration centres," he said.

He said all NIA officials would be provided with adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use during the exercise in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He added that all registration centres would be equipped with the requisite resources to ensure the strict adherence of all prescribed health and safety protocols.

Additionally, security personnel would be deployed at each registration centre to ensure that crowd control measures including physical distancing and appointment system were strictly observed.

He, however, urged all applicants who would be collecting their Ghana Cards at the various registration centres to wear a face or nose mask and wash their hands before they begin the card collection process.
