12-hour curfew on Nakpachie after 'pig conflict'

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on the Nakpachie community by the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) following a clash between Konkombas and Dagombas in the area within the Yendi Municipality.

One person, identified as the Chief Imam of Nakpachie, Adams Alhassan, was killed while several people got injured in the clash which got sparked after a Konkomba man’s drove of pigs trampled a Dagomba man’s maize farm.

Some thatched houses were torched in the conflict, forcing the residents to flee their homes surrounding towns.

Hours after the conflict, the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, called for a ceasefire between the two ethnic groups.

Mr Dery, who was speaking in an interview with Class91.3FM’s parliamentary correspondent Ekow Annan on Thursday, 8 November 2018, said: “Everybody should remain calm and let the police and the investigative bodies take charge”.

He said police and military personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.

STV’s Sualisu Sapashini reported that the dispute ensued on Wednesday, 7 November 2018 after the Dagomba farmer shot and killed one of the pigs that trampled his maize farm.

With the aid of his kinsmen, the Konkomba pig farmer tried to snatch the gun from the maize farmer. In the struggle, a Konkomba man was shot in the leg.

This led to a reprisal attack by the Konkombas.
