Accra, May 26, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, on Wednesday presented books worth 120 million cedis to the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) and the University of Ghana, Legon.

He said the books were a donation from Mr Joseph Lawrence, a Ghanaian resident in London and a Director of Academic Book Aid, a charitable organization based in London, that assisted students in realising their potentials and support libraries and training centres in Africa, especially Ghana.

The Minister said Mr Lawrence's donation was in response to President John Agyekum Kufuor's appeal to Ghanaians in the UK to assist in any way meaningful towards the country's development during one of his visits to that country.

Mr Baah-Wiredu said the books had arrived at a time when the country was looking for sources of funds to procure books to replenish stocks in all libraries of educational institutions and the Ghana Library Board. He appealed to people in the Diaspora and in Ghana to help the Ministry to stock libraries of educational institutions and the Ghana Library Board.

He urged students of the University of Ghana and IPS to take good care of the books to prolong their lifespan.

The Reverend John Martey, Director of IPS, who received the books on behalf of the two institutions, said the books were very good for students offering the professional courses.

He appealed to all scholars to try and come up with materials suitable for the local students.
