Barely a year after authorities at the Saint Ann's Anglican Junior High School in Kumasi expelled him for alleged thefts in the school, Daniel (surname withheld), 14, has landed in the arms of the police after he was identified as a member of an armed robbery gang.
One of Daniel's alleged victims spotted Daniel on October 4 this year in Ashtown, and with the help of another person arrested and handed him over to the Menyia Police.
According to Corporal Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police public affairs office, Daniel has admitted to the crime and helped police to arrest an accomplice, Joseph Agyei Yeboah, 18.
Daniel's robbery gang was allegedly harassing residents in the area. The other two members of the gang are still at large, according to Corporal Ahianyo, who added that he expects to smoke out the two from their hideouts.
He said at about 7. 30 p. m., on Monday, September 28, the victim was the suspects and their accomplices ambushed him behind a kiosk.
The robbers, wielding knives and pairs of scissors, demanded everything the victim had on him.
The victim had GHC70 and two mobile phones on him and he surrendered these to the robbers.
Afterwards, he said the robbers bolted away and were not to be seen again until on October 4 when Daniel was spotted and eventually arrested.
Daniel and Joseph last Friday appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Amo Yartey on a provisional charge of robbery, and were remanded into custody for two weeks by the court.
