15 dead, 25 injured on Peki-Tsame road crash

Fifteen people have been confirmed dead, while 25 others sustained injuries following a fatal head-on collision involving a passenger bus and a container truck at Peki-Tsame near Peki Senior High School in the Volta Region.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, involving a Mercedes-Benz container truck with registration number WR 1553-C, travelling from Nkwanta to Accra and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus with registration number GR 3215-E travelling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.

In a statement dated June 2, 2026, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said firefighters from the Peki Fire Station responded swiftly to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation.

“A total of forty (40) persons were involved, comprising twenty-one (21) males, fifteen (15) females, and four (4) children,” the statement said.

The GNFS disclosed that firefighters successfully extricated 25 injured victims, including 23 adults and two children, from the wreckage.

“Sadly, fifteen (15) persons lost their lives, made up of nine (9) males and six (6) females,” the statement added.

According to the fire service, the injured victims were transported to the Peki Government Hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were handed over to the Police and conveyed to the hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigations.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established.

The GNFS expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to comply with road traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving.

“The Ghana National Fire Service extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and urges all motorists to observe road traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving practices, and exercise maximum caution on the roads to help prevent accidents and save lives,” the statement noted.
