Adom is a boy under 18 years who has been sentenced to a two-year jail term at the Kumasi Central Prison for allegedly stealing Two thousand Ghana cedis.
According to the juvenile, he will turn 15 years in three months’ time. However “the police man who handled my case falsified my age to be 18 years”, he claims.
He tells crimecheckghana that, unfortunately, his parents who will clarify his age are dead leaving him helpless.
The young boy claims his nephew rather stole the money he is alleged to have stolen, yet couldn’t defend himself, landing him in prison to serve a two-year sentence with hardened criminals at the Kumasi Central Prison.
Adom’s case forms part of the many others highlighted by Crime Check Foundation about the increasing number of juveniles in Ghana’s forty-four prisons.
The foundation is appealing to the police administration to bring to book police officers who allegedly inflate the ages of juveniles to have them jailed in world prisons.
