The Ho Division of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has commenced investigations into the case of a 15-year-old teenager impregnated by her stepfather.
According to a report by graphiconline.com, the stepfather who admitted to impregnating the teenager, whose identity has been concealed for safety reasons, has refused to cater for both the baby and the teenage mother.
Efforts by the traditional leaders in the community have proved futile, as the stepfather, who is a farmer, has refused to appear after being summoned by the Anfoeta Paramount Chief, Togbe Kwesi Drah VII, and his elders.
Additional attempts by the Department of Social Welfare to discuss the matter and come up with ways to support the baby and its mother have also fallen flat, according to the Ho West District Director of Social Welfare, Roland Kumfo, the report added.
Roland Kumfo further disclosed that the farmer emphatically stated that he would never come to the department’s office to answer any questions when he was contacted.
The baby, however, was safely delivered on April 9, 2024.
The incident has reportedly resulted in a feud between the families of the victim’s mother and the stepfather, even though the mother is still living with the accused.
As a result, the teenager, who is a first-year JHS student, is said to have fled from the house at Anfoeta-Wadamaxe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
She is said to have sought refuge with her octogenarian maternal grandmother in the same community.
