The government is to spend over ?17 billion to finance a number of development projects at Nkawkaw, under the Urban V Project, to enhance the living standards of the people in the area.

The projects include construction of a standard lorry park, tarring of a six-kilometre road, storm drains, new public places of convenience and rehabilitation of existing ones, provision of domestic household toilets, construction of a final waste disposal and capacity building training for some staff of the Kwahu South District Assembly (KSDA).

The projects are being funded by the government with assistance from the World Bank, the British and French governments and KSDA.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Raymond Osafo Djan, announced this when he cut the sod for the construction of a ?3.2 billion lorry park at Nkawkaw.

He said the assembly has paid 50 per cent of its contribution of ?320 million towards the project to provide adequate parking space for vehicles to ease congestion and indiscriminate parking of vehicles in the Nkawkaw township.

The DCE said to solve the indiscriminate parking of vehicles in the town, the assembly is constructing five satellite lorry parks and advised drivers to move to those parks to ensure sanity in the town.

Mr. Kofi Onwona Asante, Managing Director of Tropical Architects, consultants of the project, said the project which was awarded last month to Josaung Limited is expected to be completed in September, this year.

He said he would ensure that the contractor does efficient work and appealed for assistance and cooperation to enable the contractor to complete the work on schedule.

The Presiding Member (PM) of KSDA, Mr. Ben Oware Antwi, commended Mr. Prince Kwaku Yeboah, popularly known as 'Original Dada,' for donating his 20-hectare land for the construction of the new lorry park and urged others to emulate him.

Present at the function were a number of dignitaries and the general public including the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkawkaw, Hon. Kwabena Okerchiri Adusah.
