Juaso (Ash), Dec. 16, GNA - Eighteen (18) women had filed their nomination to contest the December 28, district assembly election, in the Asante-Akim South district. They form about 12.8 per cent of the total 141 candidates, the highest number of women contestants in all the 27 administrative districts in the Ashanti region. This figure is also a significant improvement on the 2006 poll, where only nine women contested. Mr Joseph Appiagyei, District Electoral Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Juaso that, campaigning, had so far been civil and decorous. Four new electoral areas had been added to the existing 46 and these are Juaso New Site, Kpone Praso, Yaw Barimakrom and Takyikrom/Subinso. Mr Appiagyei said the Electoral Commission (EC) would mount platforms for the candidates "to sell their vision to the voters" from December 16-24 and advised against personal attacks and insults. 16 Dec. 10
