An 18-year-old unemployed, resident of Abura, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court, for breaking into two vehicles and a kitchen, and stealing items worth GH¢ 1, 539 Samuel Abedu pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Hevi who prosecuted, told the court presided over by Ms. Mercy Addai Kotei that Mr. John Acquah, owner of the two vehicles, is a teacher resident at Roman Hill, Abura, while Ms Angelina Otoo, who owns the kitchen is a drinking bar operator resident at old Elmina Road.

He said on Friday, April 4 this year, at about 5:00hrs, Mr. Acquah was informed via a phone call by a witness that his Ash Toyota Corolla and his green benz, had been broken into.

He said Mr. Acquah quickly proceeded to the roadside where the cars had been parked, only to meet Abedu hiding in the Toyota Corolla, and he handed him over to the Police.

Investigations revealed that Abedu gained access to the Toyota Corolla by damaging the front right door after which he opened the bonnet and stole its battery, as well as a spare battery in the boot of the green benz after he had also forced it open.

He also drained fuel from the tank of the benz, and in addition stole two sets of first aid boxes, two sets of car tools, one big towel, and fuel pipes. The cost of items stolen from the two vehicles, in addition to a set of window shade and one right front door damaged, was valued at GH¢ 1,240.

Other items which Abedu stole from Ms. Otoo’s Kitchen, which is attached to the drinking spot, were three gallons of oil paint, one gallon of turpentine, four pieces of paint brush , a set of tea cups, ice chest, a pair of sandals , all valued at GH¢ 299
