Cape Coast, Aug 5, GNA - Peace Tongo, a 19-year-old unemployed man resident at Kotokoraba, a suburb of Cape Coast, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Cape Coast circuit court for stealing two sheep. Tongo, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that, on August 1, this month at about 1530 hours, the complainant, a security man at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), spotted Tongo carrying a fertilizer sack on his head, which he suspected to contain the stolen goats at the Pedu Junction. He said the complainant drew the attention of a policeman who was passing by and when Tongo was questioned about the content of the sack, he replied that he had been sent to deliver it to someone and did not know the content.

Chief Inspector Azasoo, the police officer, however persisted and when the sack was opened, the carcasses of two female sheep were found in it. Tongo was subsequently arrested, and during interrogation, he admitted stealing the two sheep and mentioned one Menaba, currently at large as his accomplice.
