1D1F, 1V1D, other pledges will all materialize ‘Insha Allah’- Dr Hamid

Minister of Information, Dr Mustapha Abdul Hamid has re-echoed the resolve of The Akufo-Addo- Bawumia government to follow through with the fulfilment of all their promises to the people of Ghana, “Insha Allah”, to wit, God willing.

In an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Ghanaweb’s ‘21 minutes With KKB’, the Minister of Information underscored the nature of his work, explaining how he is working round the clock, redefining government’s engagement with the people at the community level- taking sector ministers to Townhalls far away from the capital to meet ordinary Ghanaians across Ghana and answer their concerns about the work of government and their needs.

Responding to Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng’s (KKB) question about “when are we getting the Ghana card; when are we getting them?”, Dr Hamid admitted that indeed some timelines government put on some of its programs were not met; but that not withstanding, he was hopeful by the time President Akufo-Addo ends his first term, all of them will be achieved.

“God willing we have said that in May, the process for issuing them (Ghana Cards) will start”

He said if previous dates were not met, “it’s okay”, but it will happen in May.

Prompted by his interviewer, he backtracked, admitting “it’s not okaaay” for government to be giving timelines and missing them, but that there is no need for a debate on the issue because it didn’t happen when it was announced it would, “because all of the issues that needed to be resolved to get it on board were not resolved”.

A follow up question from KKB to the Minister, asking whether Ghanaians shouldn’t expect to see the promises (1D1F, 1V1D) of the Akufo-Addo government materialize was sharply rebutted by the Minister: “all of them will materialize Insha Allah”. He assured.

Asked by the host whether the fulfillments of those promises will be in four years as is the President’s mandate- he was emphatic: “YES please”.

It included the government’s flagship Free SHS program which has saved households whose children entered SHS in September 2017 money. Many analysts hold the Free SHS program as one of the most important education intervention by any government in the fourth Republic.

Government also slashed school fees for continuing students by 50% and absorbed the BECE registration fees of candidates sitting for the exams this year.

Some other programs of this government includes the institution of a paperless policy at the Ports which has seen revenue shoot up by more than 34% since its implementation and the planting for food and jobs program.

The government despite some setbacks has also restored, as it promised during the campaigns, the payment of allowances to Teacher and Nursing Trainees across the country.

The government, beginning May 2018, has instituted the Nation Builders Corps, a program that will engage 10 unemployed graduates with Diploma, HND, Degree and Masters in some seven modules to support the work of government agencies for a stipend of 700GhC ($150).
