The One District One Factory Secretariat has responded to allegations that the revived Ghana Rubber Estates Limited commissioned by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is an old factory which the government is seeking to take glory for.

In a Facebook post on February 29, Alfred Ogbamey, a member of the National Democratic Congress questioned why the vice president will commission a factory which started operating as far back as 1967 to be a part of government’s flagship One District One Factory policy.

Reacting to this, the National Coordinator of the 1D1F, Gifty Ohene–Konadu says Alfred Ogbamey either has no understanding or has refused to understand the model and implementation approach of the 1D1F policy.

The statement which was shared on the Facebook page of the secretariat clarifies that the 1D1F policy covers both greenfield (new) and brownfield (old) companies.

Explaining further Madam Ohene wrote that as a way of adding more value to local raw materials and creating jobs among other things, the 1D1F initiative supports the setting up of new factories, as well as supporting existing strategic businesses that seek to expand operations.
