In an attempt to retrieve it, a stone was thrown, unknowingly disturbing a hidden bee nest.

The headteacher of the school, Thywill Deynu, said the bees affected many pupils and teachers, with kindergarten pupils among the most vulnerable, as they were unable to escape quickly.

“Four students were critically injured and rushed to the Keta Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment, while a seven-year-old girl was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said.

Despite medical intervention, another pupil later succumbed to injuries, bringing the death toll to two.
