2 in trouble over human trafficking

Two brothers, Benjamin Kumi and Eric Kumi, have run into trouble with the law over their alleged involvement in human trafficking.

They have been accused of sending an unemployed woman to oil-rich Kuwait to engage in prostitution, a charge both have denied.

The Bibiani Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Baptist Kojo Filson, has, subsequently, granted each a GH¢ 5,000 bail, to re-appear on November 11.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emma Madonna-Abotsi, the prosecutor, said the accused had in February, this year, taken cash of GH¢7,600 from the complainant, Gertrude Gyampah, with the understanding of sending her to South Korea to work as Secretary.

However, the prosecutor said, they rather flew her to Kuwait, where she was handed over to an unknown person to work as prostitute, but she refused.

She was threatened with death and forced by the said person to refund monies spent on her - air ticket and other expenses- said the prosecutor.

Her elder brother at Bibiani, according to the prosecutor, had to raise the money to pay for her release before she could fly back to Ghana.
