The convicts were arrested at their hideouts at McCarthy Hill
Two persons who robbed a research fellow and an engineer at gunpoint have been sentenced to a total of 41 years’ imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.
Isaac Agyemang and Desmond Opoku attacked the two complainants at Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region and robbed them of their Hundai Creta vehicle, mobile phones, two laptops, cash of GH?200 and other valuables.
They were arrested on June 26, 2017 and arraigned before the court two days later. They pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and robbery.
The prosecution established their guilt during the trial.
Isaac Agyemang was handed a 21-year jail term in hard labour while Desmond Opoku had 20 years for his role in the robbery.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, told the court that Boakye Boampong and Kwasi Boampong Boakye returned from work on June 16, 2017.
He said when the complainants got to the gate of the house, Kwasi Boampong Boakye alighted from the vehicle to open it while the other drove the vehicle into the house.
He told the court that Kwasi Boamppong Boakye, who was in the process of closing the gate, was attacked by the armed convicts who were wearing masks.
Chief Inspector Adu told the court that the convicts forcibly collected the complainant’s Iphone 5, an Acer laptop, an HP i3 laptop, wallet containing GH?200, £75, a wristwatch, vehicle and other personal belongings.
He told the court that the accused person used their guns to hit the complainants who sustained injuries.
The court heard that the matter was reported to the police, and the complainants were issued with medical forms to attend hospital for treatment.
Chief Inspector Adu narrated that the convicts were arrested at their hideouts on June 16, 2018 at McCarthy Hill.
He said a search conducted in their rooms revealed the complainants’ wristwatch and laptop bag.
He said during interrogation, Isaac Agyemang told police that on June 16, 2017 at about 11:00 pm, his friends Kwaku and Dela brought a 4×4 vehicle with 2017 registration number to his house to pick him out, but he declined, adding that when he came out of his house the next day, he found the laptop bag with wristwatch.
