Two persons, Abubakari Taro Taara 30, and Abdulai Ibrahim 19, suspected to be armed robbers, have been arrested by the Drobo police in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The suspects, arrested at different locations in the Jaman South District, had in their possession assorted harmful implements, including one pump action gun without a butt, 19 AAA cartridges in a bullet belt, a mask, a talisman , an amulet, a cutlass, a kitchen knife and three mobile phones. Abubakari Taro, the first suspect, was arrested at Sekyerekrom.

Abdulai Ibrahim was also arrested at Meremama near Drobo, allegedly having five wrappers of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 3 BB cartridges, a wooden club, torchlight and wellington boots.

Giving the facts of the case to newsmen, the regional police commander, DCOP Maxwell Atingane, said the two attempted to break into the room of one Victoria Gyamfua, 42, at Meremama but didn’t succeed. Abubakari managed to escape but Ibrahim was nabbed by the townsfolk on 29 July, 2015.

An announcement made on a local radio station by the police made it possible for Abubakari Jara Taara to be apprehended on Saturday, August 1, at his hideout at Sekyerekrom.

A witness in the house of Madam Gyamfua identified Ibrahim to be one of the guys who attempted to break into Gyamfua’s room. Another witness, a farmer, also later identified the two as those who struggled with him and took away his mobile phone. The farmer identified one of the three mobile phones as his.

According to DCOP Maxwell Atingane, Abdullai Ibrahim had already been slapped with a charge of attempted robbery.

He has been arraigned before the court and remanded into police custody to reappear on a later date.

The second suspect, Abubakari Taro, will be charged with possession of fire arms and ammunitions without authority and preparing to commit crime. He will also be arraigned before the court soon.

DCOP Atingane promised that thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain all allegations leveled against them by community members. According to the police, the suspects are believed to be of Fulani descent.
