A circuit court at Fiapre has remanded two suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a driver at knife point in attempt to snatch his taxi cab at Nsapo, near Berekum.

Superintendent Maama Arhin, Brong Ahafo Regional Crime officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that the two suspects; 22 year-old Ismeal Amakakye alias Apoka, a spiritualist, and Kwame Ofosu Ackah, a 23-year old farm labourer, have been remanded into prison custody to reappear on February 12, this year.

He said the two suspects hired a taxi on January 8, at Kojokrom in the Western Region to Berekum.

On reaching Nsapo near Berekum at 0100 hours Amakakye, who was sitting in the front seat, drew a knife and attempted to stab the driver, but he fended it off with his arm and got wounded in the process.

He said Ofosu, who was also sitting behind the driver, held his neck while Amakakye tried to remove his hand from the steering wheel thus forcing the taxi to veer off the road into the bush.

The driver came out of the taxi and raised the alarm, he said, which attracted people to the scene.

However, the suspects fled into the bush.

Superintendent Arhin said the people pursued them in the bush, arrested Ackah, and sent him to the Police Station.

Investigations later led to the arrest of Amakakye.
