The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent attacks in the Bolgatanga municipality and along the Bolgatanga–Walewale highway.
The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, also known as “Mosbee,” and Jacob Akugri, also known as “Weezy,” were picked up in Kumasi on Friday, May 9, 2026, by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters Operations Unit, according to a report by adomonline.com on May 11, 2026.
According to the police, the arrests followed weeks of coordinated intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in the Bolgatanga and Walewale areas.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are part of a robbery syndicate believed to have been operating across parts of the Upper East and North East regions.
“The gang allegedly carried out attacks on highways and within communities, robbing victims of cash, mobile phones, and motorbikes. Some of these robbery incidents are also believed to have resulted in deaths,” the police said in a statement.
Investigators further alleged that they suspect the group used high-powered weapons, including AK-47 rifles and pistols, during their operations.
The police have indicated that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the suspected gang as investigations continue.
