A 20-year old man is in the grips of Kwesimintsim Police for defiling a six-year old girl at Anaji in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
The suspect, Isaac Nana Kwesi Baffoe, is currently in police custody and would be processed for court for defilement.
Briefing the media in Takoradi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Thomas Bayor, the Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, said the complaint was the mother of the victim who resided in the same house with the suspect at Anaji, a suburb of Takoradi.
He said on Wednesday August 12, the mother of the victim left the house for the market to purchase some food items while her daughter was asleep.
He said upon returning home around 1000 hours on the same day, she was told Baffoe sneaked into the room and abused her daughter and in the process inflicted wounds inducing profuse bleeding.
The loud shouts of the girl attracted neighbours who arrested Baffoe and handed him over to the police, while the victim was sent to Jemima clinic at Kwesimintsim for treatment.
The police said the suspect admitted the offence in his caution statement and would be put before court.
