A 20-year-old man, Yaw Tawiah, also known as Jah Boy, who was on remand at the Sefwi Boinzan Police Station for charges including conspiracy to rob, robbery, and the illegal possession of fire arms, has escaped from police custody.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the incident, which was confirmed by sources at the Juaboso District Police Command, took place in the early hours of Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Initial investigations by the police found that Constable Alice Owusu Agyemang, who was on duty on that day, opened the cell to provide water for Tawiah and his accomplice, Bright Tetteh, alias Kofi Y2K, to flush a water closet they had used.

During this process, Tawiah succeeded in pushing the officer aside and fled into nearby bushes.

A search party, including patrol units, was quickly organised to comb through the surrounding areas and nearby communities. However, despite extensive efforts by the police, the fugitive has not yet been apprehended, the report added.

The police are engaging local informants in hopes of tracking down Tawiah and are continuing their search to bring him back into custody.
