General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress has asserted that the 200 community day secondary schools promised to be built by former President John Mahama would have been ready for occupancy if the NDC was still in power.

According to him, the completion of the project would have averted the introduction of the recently implemented double track system.

“For us, we had a plan, a well thought through plan which would have taken care of this double track system that has been introduced. Just look at how our educational system has been poorly managed by this administration” he told Kweku Owusu Adjei on Kasapa Fm.

“It is not right to have students sit at home whiles others are in school. The NPP government does not understand education and that is hurting our children. I tell you, if the NDC was to be in government now, we would have completed the 200 schools we started which 123 were at various levels of completion and that would have averted this double track thing” he added.

Meanwhile the Akufo Addo led government has defended the policy, arguing that the system will reduce class sizes, increase the contact hours between teachers and students, as well as increase the number of holidays.

Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said the double track system is not going to be a permanent feature on the calendar of the schools that will run it but is a temporary measure to curb the congestion.
