2012 Election Will Be Decided By FONKAR - Bempah

A leading member of the group, Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has asserted that the winner of 2012 General Elections will be decided by FONKAR. Owusu-Bempah strongly believes FONKAR holds the key to whoever will become President of Ghana after the elections in 2012.

According to him, the NDC will be living a dream if it thinks they have nailed the Rawlingses to the stake forever and that the political dynamics they adopted during the party’s presidential primaries is the best.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM News, the outspoken NDC youth activist stated emphatically that the NDCs electoral college (3000 delegates) is not representative of the total majority of the party. He confirmed that pressure is indeed mounting on the defeated NDC flagbearer contender, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to run as an independent candidate in 2012 presidential polls.

“The disenfranchised footsoldiers who were not delegates are piling pressure on Nana Konadu to go independent. There is pressure coming from within. Besides, the delegates who voted in the presidential primaries do not represent the total majority of NDC so if they think they can humiliate Nana Konadu with only 3000 delegates then they should be ready for what is coming. The future is bright and 2012 election will be decided by FONKAR and only FONKAR will show the person who will be president of Ghana in 2012. … FONKAR has a stake and a big say in the 2012 general election,” he asserted.

He lamented that the destiny of the ruling party was placed in the hands of some 3000 delegates out of the millions of NDC sympathizers across the country, but stressed that “FONKAR will show the NDC that they can do something to upset the chances of the party in 2012.

Owusu-Bempah, who allegedly jumped ship when it became clear the former First Lady, was heading towards a humiliating defeat at the hands of President Mills during the presidential primaries of the NDC's just ended Sunyani Congress, explained that he had other pressing engagements to attend to in France, hence his sudden departure.

“I never run away from a ‘fight’ I am almost through with,” he said.

In a related issue, Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams, says he is unaware Nana Konadu is considering going independent, stressing that the former First Lady fully supports the NDC.

He however that Nana Konadu is preparing to embark on a “Thank You” tour as a form of appreciation to all who in diverse ways supported her bid to run for the party’s flagbearership position.
