The 2018 Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, officially ended yesterday and Team Ghana is expected to arrive home today, Sunday, October 21, 2018.

The 10-man contingent that represented the country in the games left the games village on Saturday but arrive on Sunday.

Ghana failed to win a medal at the games after competing in four sporting disciplines with five athletes.

The country competed in athletics, beach volleyball, swimming and weightlifting.

In athletics, 400m runner Solomon Diafo finished eighth in the finals with a time of 48.47secs.

The Africa Youth Championship bronze medalist blamed his performance on poor preparations and has called on authorities to take a second look at how athletes are being prepared for international competitions.

Eric Tsatsu and Kelvin Carboo also represented the country in Beach Volleyball and was knocked out in round of 24 by host nation, Argentina.

The two athletes also won silver at the Africa Youth Championship held in Algiers, Algeria.

Speaking in an interview with the media after competing, Kelvin Carboo also called on authorities to assist athletes to get more competitions to participate in so that they can get the needed experience and exposure to face their fellows at the world stage like the Olympics.

Team Ghana was captained by Abeiku Jackson who competed in four events in swimming. He competed in the 50m butterfly and freestyle as well as the 100m butterfly and freestyle.

He, however, qualified to the semifinals of his events but could not go further to the finals. He won four medals at the Africa Youth Championship.

Ghana took one female athlete to the Buenos Aires games in the person of Sandra Mensimah Owusu. She competed in the women's 58kg bodyweight in weightlifting.

The 16year old athlete finished seventh out of eight after making a total of 142kg. This was an improvement in her total made at the Africa Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship held in Cairo, Egypt early this year.

She admitted her performance was not the best but promised to excel in her future competition like next year's All African Games.

The athletes together with their coaches were led to the games by Evans Yeboah, President of Badminton Association of Ghana and third Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee.
