The host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere has given out some recommendations to the electoral commission (EC) if they want to achieve a successful 2020 election under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Otchere who believes the 2020 elections must happen regardless of any circumstances says the EC must prepare to put in place these necessary safety protocols.
He proposed that all polling stations across the country must be doubled to enable spacing and also to avoid long queues at polling stations
“All 30,000 polling stations across the country must be doubled. The normal queues we use to see on Election Day, we can’t have them for 2020 elections because of COVID-19. We should have a socially distant queue,” he stated
He also suggested that the EC must provide nose masks and gloves for all Ghanaian citizens on the Election Day.
“The EC must provide nose mask for all 12 million people, a pair of gloves as well,” he said.
He also mentioned that sanitizers, soaps and buckets of water for hand washing must be a big deal on that day.
The Good Evening Ghana host said from all indications Ghana is likely to conduct a huge budget election this year.
Paul Adom Otchere stressed on the need to conduct this year’s election no matter the cost.
“7th December must occur. That is the conclusion. The elections must happen and that is what the constitution is telling us. The constitution hasn’t given us any room not to have elections on the 7th December. In whatever circumstances, the constitution says that 7th December is a ‘sine qua non’ to the establishment of the constitution and our democracy,” he emphasized.
