There has been a lot of news about the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which began this past Monday, July 8, 2024.
Cheating remains a problem as some teachers and invigilators supervising the examination have been arrested for trying to help students answer questions during the papers taken on Monday.
There has also been progress as the government deployed a drone to deliver examination papers to ensure they start on time. However, perhaps the most inspiring news from the ongoing BECE is a video of a boy with disabilities taking the examination.
A viral video of the boy, identified as Yussif Toyombo, taking his paper on Monday showed him skillfully writing with a pen in his mouth at one of the BECE centers in the Bono Region.
Toyombo, after carefully reading the questions, proceeded to provide his answers.
Yussif Toyombo's father, in an interview with Adom FM on Monday, said that his son has never let his disability hinder his academics.
He mentioned that despite his disabled hands, his son always ranks first in his class.
"My son always ranks first in every school he's attended. Initially, his hands were functional, but they eventually stopped working. Yet, he continues to excel academically," he said according to adomonline.com.
The Deputy Minister for Education, John Ntim Fordjour, has promised to support Yussif Toyombo.
