Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, has criticised the Ghana Police Service and the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, over a plan to transform personnel of the Intelligence Unit of the police into media liaison officers for the pending December 2024 general election.
In a post shared on Facebook on November 11, 2024, ACP Agordzo could not comprehend why people he said were undercover officers would be made media liaison officers.
He added that the move shows that the IGP does not know what he is doing, or is hiding something.
He pointed out that Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the police in the various regions can act as media liaisons for the December 7, 2024, polls.
“See the confusion the GPS is introducing into election security. PID officers now media liaison officers for election 2024? PID undercover officers now media liaison officers for 2024 general elections? Where are our PROs in the regions?
“The GPS needs to be rescued from Dampare. I take it that Dampare is hiding something, or he's showing glaring signs of incompetence,” ACP Agordzo wrote.
The retired police officer made these comments while reacting to a video clip of a senior, ACOP Adu, from a press briefing, explaining the plan to use the intelligence officers as media liaisons.
