Fourteen individuals involved in violent disturbances during the December 7, 2024, elections in the Damongo constituency have been remanded by the Kumasi High Court.

The suspects have been remanded into prison custody while facing nine charges, including unlawful damage, assault, causing harm, and obstructing electoral officers in the performance of their duties.

Two other persons who are minors were discharged following arguments by the defence counsel due to their ages.

The court, therefore, released the minors to a responsible guardian, Alhaji Imoro Seidu, who was required to leave his Ghana Card with the Court Registrar as investigations continue, according to citinewsroom.com.

The latest development follows violent disturbances by some youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency during the general elections, resulting in the death of thirty-five-year-old Mukila Ziblim.

Mukila Ziblim tragically lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet during the chaotic incident. The violence erupted when the youth attacked a collation center and set fire to the storeroom of the West Gonja Municipal Electoral Commission following delays in the declaration of election results.

Electoral materials, including laptops, pink sheets, ballot boxes, and papers, were also vandalised.

Protesters, reportedly angered by the situation, stormed the Damongo Municipal Collation Center and set the Electoral Commission office ablaze, causing extensive damage.

According to citinewsroom.com, the case was transferred from the Savannah Region to the Kumasi High Court for further proceedings due to the insecurity in the area.
