The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has reacted to his disqualification from the presidential race by the Electoral Commission.

Moments after the Electoral Commission announced the names of those qualified to contest for the presidency, Bernard Mornah stated in an interview with TV3 on Friday, September 20, 2024, that there was no official communication from the EC to his office regarding his disqualification, despite his frantic efforts to reach out to the EC leadership.

He added that he learned of his disqualification through the EC’s press release.

“I called Jean Mensa three times this morning with no response. I called her deputies too. Dr Bossman told me the committee was still working on it and that those that they have released their letters have been sent to them. I am aware of some candidates on the ballot whose letters were not given. Bossman told me he was going to the office and will revert. I’ve been calling him since with no return of my calls only for us to see this bogus release from the EC,” Mornah fumed.

Bernard Mornah disclosed and acknowledged anomalies in his forms after an EC official contacted him to address the issue, which he said he did.

“On Saturday, a day after we had filed and submitted our nominations, I got a call from an unknown person informing me of some anomalies in our forms. I counted about 7 pages that the EC claimed that we have some anomalies. I immediately sent for the forms to be picked in accordance with the EC directives. The forms were completed on that same Saturday and returned. The official called to confirm that our forms had been rectified and returned to them.”

According to him, he would not accept the outcome of the EC's decision.

He assured that he would fight the decision and pursue the matter until the end.

“I am a fighter and I will fight till the end. I will not accept this kind of disrespect and will not accept the fact that the Electoral Commission does not want to play according to rules,” he said.

The EC has disqualified 11 out of the 24 candidates for the presidential election. The electoral body has yet to announce the basis for the disqualifications of these individuals.
