Security analyst, Adib Saani, has described the extent of political abuse and power through money that he witnessed in the just-ended 2024 Election as one he has never seen before.

Describing the extent of the abuse of power and inducements through money, he said that he was so shocked, especially because of some of the things that were being used to induce these people, who he described as poor.

Adib, who is the Executive Director of Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, added that these inducements were so rampant that some of them came as late as on the eve of December 7 – Election Day.

He said this when he spoke with Etsey Atisu, Host of Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV, on the aftermath of the 2024 polls and the security concerns from the national exercise.

“I have never seen such abuse of power through money in my life. You enter a territory and you realise that this candidate is really in power. The use of money to induce voters was just fantastic, so to speak. You go into a community and you see pickups carrying motorbikes for distribution, and in some cases, you see trucks filled with thousands of bags of rice and cooking oil for distribution.

“And interestingly, some of them came late; on the eve of elections. On the eve of elections, money was shared and a lot of goodies were distributed, and you know, there is so much poverty in Ghana, I must say. You go to certain communities and… believe it or not, some needed just soap and maggi and salt… as a means of survival. They just needed these basic things, and that was what was happening,” he explained.

Adib Saani also described some of the worrying concerns he had about the elections, as well as how he believes Ghana can move on from this current state of seeming insecurity in the country.
