The 2024 general elections are fast approaching, with only two days left as Ghanaians prepare to vote to elect new leaders in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Ahead of the polls on December 7, 2024, every eligible Ghanaian voter must familiarize themselves with the electoral guidelines and rules to avoid being found guilty of violating them.
Below are the some of the guidelines and electoral rules sanctioned by the Electoral Commission on the election.
Here are what you can do on the election day:
- Confirm your voter and polling station details
- Enter your designated polling station with your Voter ID card and join the queue if there is one.
- Abide by the laws at the poling station
- Keep your voter’s ID card safe
- Follow the voting guidelines that will be given to you by the electoral officer
- Leave the voting area and return at 5 pm to witness the count, if you so wish.
- Respect other voters
- Vote in secrecy
On the things to avoid, here are some don’t’s
- Abstain from bribery
- Do not vote more than once. Multiple voting can get you arrested and prosecuted.

- Avoid inciting or engaging in violent acts at the polling stations
- Do not wear party colors or paraphernalia to the election grounds
- Do not snatch or steal ballot boxes
- Do not sell your vote or engage in vote buying
