The latest poll by research agency Global Info Analytics has placed the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, in the lead in three strongholds of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, with less than seven months until the 2024 polls.
The poll revealed that the majority of voters in these constituencies, namely Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei South, Anyaa Sowutuom, and Trobu, have indicated that while they plan to vote for the NPP parliamentary candidate in the 2024 election, they will not be voting for the party's flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the poll, approximately 40.5 percent of the voters in these four constituencies, which the NPP won by an average of 62 percent in the 2020 polls, have stated that they will be voting for former President Mahama in the December 7, 2024, election.
Only 36 percent indicated they would vote for Vice President Bawumia if the 2024 elections were held today.
"In Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei South, Anyaa Sowutuom, and Trobu, where the NPP won by an average of 62% in the 2020 election, now shows the leading opposition candidate, John Mahama, leading in the polls with 40.5%.
"The current vice president and flagbearer of the governing NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is on 36%, Nana Kwame Bediako, the New Force, with 1.8%, Alan Kyeremanten, Movement for Change, with 1.7%. 10.4% of voters say they will not vote, and 9.4% are undecided," parts of a summary report on the poll read.
It added, "Analysis of the poll shows that in all four BLUE constituencies, there is strong evidence from the data to suggest 'skirt and blouse' voting, tactical voting, as all NPP candidates outperform their presidential candidate."
About 74% of the voters indicated that the country was heading in the wrong direction under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with 62 percent of them stating that their standard of living has worsened since Akufo-Addo took over.
