The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has declared her intention to contest in the 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.

Speaking to some of her constituents in a viral video, Cynthia Morrison, a former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, indicated that she is going independent because of her love for the people of Agona West.

She said that she does not care who wins the presidential election, adding that her focus is to be retained as the representative for the people of Agona West so that she can finish the work she has started.

“Some of you have started campaigning for me. God willing, I will be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

“I’m going to have another discussion with you where I will give you the reasons for my decision. It is not about the NDC, and it is not about the NPP. It is about the development of Agona,” she said in Fante.

The former gender minister added, “I don’t care whether you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama or Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. But the most important thing is for you to vote massively for Cynthia Morrison so I can come and complete the work I started.”

Cynthia Morrison was first elected as the MP for Agona West in 2016 on the ticket of the NPP. She retained her seat in the 2020 parliamentary election.

She, however, lost the NPP primaries for the 2024 election to Christopher Arthur, the current NPP parliamentary candidate for the upcoming December 7 polls.
