The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Fifi Kwetey, has emphatically stated that his party does not trust the Electoral Commission.

Speaking in an interview on 'PM Express' on June 12, 2024, Fifi Kwetey asserted that his party does not trust the EC because of its leadership and actions.

According to him, the leadership of the EC is now filled with members of the ruling New Patriotic Party who have proven by their actions and public statements that they are not going to be neutral as they are supposed to be.

"We've never in our history had what you call people who are literally card-bearing members of a political party who are commissioners of the EC. For example, in this particular Electoral Commission, you can mention Bossman who clearly from his pronouncements tells you that this man is just basically an NPP man.

"The man actually stated plainly that the problem of Ghana is the NDC. That pronouncement can only come from somebody who clearly has a problem with the NDC. If there are two major political parties and you as a referee, you're supposed to be in the middle as a neutral referee but you clearly make a statement to the fact that you have a problem with one particular party," he said.

He added, "Your business is to make sure you provide what you call a fair neutral platform for the two big parties to be able to have a contest to determine who wins elections. And if you, in that centre, clearly show that level of bias, it's obvious that you have an agenda and why would I trust you? I won't trust you. Every step you make, I know that you have an agenda. Because it is in your interest to ensure that the party you favour wins."

The NDC general secretary added that, to make matters worse, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also appointed a communicator of the NPP to the EC as a deputy commissioner.
