The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has declared that the party will approach the upcoming election with preparedness and vigilance.

He alleged that the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, and Dr. Bosman Asare, one of the deputy commissioners, were only hired by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for an election rigging agenda.

Speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua Nkommo at ABUSUA FM, Mr. Gbande expressed the party’s distrust of the Electoral Commission, particularly Chairperson Jean Mensa, whose credibility he questioned.

“Jean Mensah’s credibility is not good. We have evidence of her being with NPP leaders and dining together. She is not a referee, but a coach.

“Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare, instead of being referees, are now coaches for the NPP, teaching them how to rig the 2024 election,” he claimed.

However, he acknowledged that the party will work within the existing electoral framework to secure victory in the December elections.

“Yes, we don’t trust the EC, but when you go to the marketplace, you don’t change the currency of the market. You will use the same currency to win the election,” he noted.

NDC Now Awake

Mr. Gbande acknowledged the NDC’s complacency in the 2020 elections, assuring that they will not repeat the same mistakes.

He insisted, “What happened in the 2020 elections, we know. It won’t happen again. We, the NDC, were asleep in the 2020 elections. We played with the election, we didn’t do what we had to do. But 2024 is an election of vigilance.”

He emphasized that the 2024 election is a crucial decision for Ghana’s future, where citizens will choose between progress and rewarding corruption and criminal governance conduct.

“The 2024 election is a decision that will determine the future of our country.”
