Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency and daughter of former president Jerry John Rawlings has called on members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to commit to zero tolerance for corruption.

Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, 27 July 2024, Dr. Rawlings expressed concern over the monetisation of politics in Ghana.

“Our politics has become so monetised that these people believe that everybody can be bought at a price, and we have to prove them wrong,” Dr. Rawlings stated.

She emphasised that good governance pillars — transparency, accountability, probity, and integrity — must be upheld.

“When we [NDC] come to power, we must uphold those principles and guard them properly if we’re to project this fourth republic of ours,” she said.

Dr. Rawlings urged the NDC to set a higher standard.

“The people of Ghana hold the NDC to a higher standard, and so what people tolerate from these people, they will not tolerate from us.”

She stressed that the campaign launch should stand on “principles that cannot be bought with money” and called on the party's agents to protect the ballot boxes.

“We do need money, but we will not be bought. We must make sure that come December 7, no one can come to any of our agents and offer them money to betray the people of Ghana,” she urged.

Highlighting the fight against corruption, Dr. Rawlings said: “Each of us has a duty to preach the good word of the NDC. On his tour of Ghana, President Mahama has promised to deal with corruption, but he cannot do it alone. We must do it together.”

She urged every member to play a role in combating corruption and protecting the fourth republic by safeguarding the ballot box in the upcoming general elections.

“This is a big fight. We must all be above monetisation. Do not allow yourself to be misled by the money that people will bring your way. If they could not do it in 7 and a half years, the extra 4 months that we have is not going to change the way they do things.”

Dr. Rawlings therefore called on all to vote for the party in the upcoming polls.

“Vote for John Mahama, vote for the NDC, vote for your NDC parliamentary candidate, and let us turn this country around and put it on the right track,” she added.
